About Akhara Sohrab Khan
Akhara Sohrab Khan is located in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, in a street named after the famous wrestler Ustad Sohrab Khan. The history of this gym dates back about 150 years. The founder of Akhara Sohrab Khan was Wrestler Tafazzul Husain Khan. After the death of Wrestler Sohrab Khan in the year 1948, his son Wrestler Siddique Khan became the incharge for approximately thirty years. Following his death in the year 1978, the responsibility was given to his elder son, Sir Ustad Shujaat Husain Khan, also known as Ustad Barzu Khan, who is the current ustad and incharge.
The gym focuses on old Indian wrestling techniques, known as kushti, and traditional exercises. The soil of the training area consists of secret herbs intended to help build the body and boost resistance. Wrestlers can rest in the herbal soil yard after exercise. Currently, individuals whose family members are inspired and closely attached to the akharas participate in the exercise routines here.
