Shangar Art

Shangar Art is located at 16, Tulsi Vihar Society, near Sterling Centre, Khanpur, in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The store offers traditional items and artworks, including Mata Ni Pachedi, which is a traditional art of painting the image of goddesses on cloth. This art form features multicolored animated images of gods, goddesses, devotees, followers, flora, and fauna with a narrative story. The term Mata-ni-Pachedi originates from the Gujarati language, where Mata means goddess, ni means belongs to, and Pachedi means behind. The nomadic Vaghari community of Gujarat historically created these depictions of the Mother Goddess on cloth when they were barred from entering temples.

In addition to paintings and textiles, Shangar Art deals in antique brass and wooden antiques. The inventory includes items such as the Ganga-Jamuna lota, which is a traditional water vase made from a combination of brass and copper. This specific lota is an art piece featuring Mughal carving and is decorated with a copper strip.
